My teacher assigned us to make a project for people who have donated some money to our school district. Everyone in my class has to make an original piece of artwork. For this I decided to make a painting using acrylic which is my favorite kind of paint. I went and took a picture of my violin I then did a sketch. After this I filled in the background with purple then I painted the violin. To blend the color I used my fingers which then enabled me to get a more wood like texture.

For my final for the Repetition project I am going to be doing the same thing that I was doing in my second rough draft. I started with my largest circle then spread across the page forming a blob with many contours which are shown by the size and proximity of the circles. The point of the project was to create movement and space through the repetition of a simple shape. My final shows that through the size difference in the circles. This creates the look of a mountain range viewed from the eye of a bird. The smaller circles which create the darker areas form the valleys and the lager circles in the lighter areas form the peaks. This creates a sense of the drawing moving forward and backward in space and it creates a flowing movement as the circles decrease in size gradually. The size, proximity, and darkness the circles create in the piece all contribute to creating movement in the piece.

So, after trying to recreate my sweater sleeve with repeated circles I decided to try something else. I started by putting some medium sized circles on a page in a blob shape. From there I started from the upper edge and started making smaller and smaller circles ad I moved away from my center blob. Then I started from the opposite side of my original center blob and this time instead of making the circles smaller I make them larger until I had come to a point which was the largest circle. I continued this patter making larger and smaller circles, connecting them together, and moving them across my page. I then had areas that were very dark and made up of the tiniest circles which then gave way to lighter areas made up of larger circles it started to remind me of a mountain rage with the dark and small circles forming the valleys and the bigger circles forming the peaks.

My first draft only lasted a few minutes however, it showed me exactly what I want to do in my next draft I decided to use the elbow of my sweater as the material I would copy using circles. So I started with basic outline of the sleeve then started filling it in as you can see from the picture below I did not get very far filling it to be honest I did one row then knew that I did not want to do a set object for my final. I found it put such a restraint on how I could develop the design of the circles. In my next draft I want to try to just fill an entire page like the first example we were shown on the first day. I believe that when I do not limit myself to a shape when creating a pattern I will be able to create more movement which is another reason I quit my first draft so quickly. As I started on it I suddenly and swiftly realized that I would not be able to create the depth movement and space required to accomplish the goal of this project.

Our second project was to create a design through use of repletion of a single simple shape such as a circle, square, triangle, etc. and through this usage create movement, depth and space. We were shown multiple examples which included an entire paper filled with circles which were of varying sizes which created depth and movement, a checker board with varying space between the squares which made the design seem like it was spreading apart. I was really struck by the use of circles in the first example and I decided I wanted to work with those for my design. I wanted to use circles because I thought they created the most difference in depth other simple shapes would be used to create expanding space but circles could be used, by differential of size, to create a depth similar to a mountain range with peaks and valleys.  For this reason I automatically chose the circle to be my simple shape to work with. To create this piece I am thinking I am thinking of taking an object which includes a lot of peaks and valleys to portray through the use of the simple circle, creating the valleys through the use of smaller circles.
